制止呼び掛けていた新年の祝砲、保安官に流れ弾当たる 米
マシュー・Ｂ・トレグリア保安官（４８）の胸に流れ弾が当たった/ALLEN COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE
（ＣＮＮ） 米オハイオ州アレン郡で４日までに、保安官が制止を呼び掛けている新年恒例の祝砲の流れ弾を受けたものの、負傷を免れる事案があった。年が明けてわずか数分後の出来事だった。
保安官のマシュー・Ｂ・トレグリアさん（４８）と同僚のメージャー・トッド・モーラーさん（４９）はパトカーで巡回中、公共広告用の動画を撮影しようと考えた。その動画は、大みそかに新年を祝って空に向かって撃つ「祝砲」をやめるよう警告するための動画だった。
１日の深夜０時５分ごろ、１発の銃弾が近くに停車していた警察車両に当たり、２人の保安官が乗っているパトカーの方に跳ね返った。弾はモーラーさんの顔のすぐ横を通過し、トレグリアさんの胸に当たったという。幸い、弾は防弾チョッキに跳ね返り、トレグリアさんは無事だった。
動画はその様子を捉えていた。
A few minutes after midnight on New Year’s Day, Sheriff Treglia and Major Mohler were sitting in an Allen County Sheriff’s Office cruiser right beside a Lima Police Department cruiser in the 100 block of South Main Street in Downtown Lima directly across from the Civic Center. For PSA purposes, Major Mohler began video recording the extraordinary number of “celebratory” gunshots being fired within the city limits. While parked, a stray bullet struck the LPD patrol unit ricocheting into the Allen County Sheriff’s Office cruiser. The stray bullet passed through the open driver’s window, inches in front of Major Mohler’s face, then struck Sheriff Treglia’s chest. It is assumed that this was an unintentional consequence of bullets being fired into the air. Luckily nobody was injured or killed as was seen in other cities this year. What goes up, must come back down. Shooting any type of gun into the air is extremely dangerous and illegal. Please, handle any and all firearms safely and responsibly. We are sharing this video to help spread the message that anyone can be injured by this type of criminal activity. At the :26 second mark you can hear the bullet strike the cruiser. 「最初は何者かが故意にわれわれの車に向かって発砲したのだと思った。しかし、自分が負傷していないことに気付き処理した後、すぐに、あれは（空から）落ちてきた祝砲の弾ではないかと考えた」とトレグリアさんは振り返った。
その弾を誰が発砲したかは分かっていない。トレグリアさんは、以前に発砲されたことはあるが、弾に当たったのは今回が初めてという。
保安官事務所はフェイスブックへの投稿で、「上に上がった物は必ず落ちてくる。銃のタイプを問わず上空に射撃をすることは極めて危険で違法だ。全ての火器は安全に、責任を持って取り扱ってほしい」と呼び掛けた。
テキサス州ヒューストンでは、大みそかの祝砲と見られる発砲により、６１歳の女性が死亡している。
